New US Ambassador Meets Cambodian Assembly President and Finance Minister

Phnom Penh, February 6, 2009 AKP --

New US Ambassador to Cambodian Carol Rodley has pledged to do her
utmost to encourage US investment and tourism to Cambodia in a period of her
diplomatic mission in the country in spite of the financial crisis the USA
faced.

She said this, while meeting with National Assembly President
Samdech Akkak Ponhea Chakrey Heng Samrin here on February 4, stressing that she
would do something as possible as she could to make the ties of cooperation
between the two governments and the both nations further promoted, mainly the
legislative bodies more and more understood with each other through the visit
exchange.

In reply, Cambodian national assembly president welcomed her
diplomatic mission in Cambodia, through which he said the cooperation between
the two countries would be developed.

He also thanked the US government for its assistance to health,
education, the military, the promotion of basic educational quality, mine
clearance action and so on in Cambodia.

The work of the executive and legislative institutions in the
country went well, which he said was inseparable from the assistances provided
by the international communities, mainly the USA.

He also told the US ambassador of a series of laws adopted by the
national assembly in the past, saying that in fourth mandate of the national
assembly the Cambodian parliament would try hard to issue the penal law as a
main one for the nation.

Earlier, the new US ambassador met with Senior Minister and Finance
and Economy Minister Kiet Chhun, in which the focus was on the promotion of
cooperation between the two countries.

He told the US diplomat that the royal government’s objective is to
make a 7 percent economic growth defined by the government’s rectangular
strategy in the second phase under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech
Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.--AKP
