Human Rights Defenders in Cambodia 2007: A video by Licadho

Cambodia is a dangerous place for human rights defenders. During 2007, the
Cambodian League for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights (LICADHO)
recorded more cases than ever before of threats and attacks against activists
attempting to peacefully defend the rights of others.

Motorboat flying Cambodian flag detained off Sakhalin

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, February 9 (Itar-Tass) - The SV-11 motorboat flying the
Cambodian flag was detained on Moneron Island off Sakhalin on suspicion of
poaching.

The vessel is registered at the port of Phnom Penh. The crew includes ten
Russians and five Indonesians.

According to the press service of the Sakhalin coastal department, the
motorboat was detained on Sunday by a patrol ship. Coatsal guards found 900
kilograms of live blue crab onboard, no fishing permit was provided.

The captain of the vessel is a citizen of Russia who is suspected of
contraband, poaching of rare aquatic animals and plants and illegal crossing of
the Russian border.

The vessel was tugged to the port of Nevelsk for further investigation.

The Global Witness report accuses donors of turning a blind eye to potential
mismanagement of funds and urges them to use their influence—in hundreds of
millions of dollars of aid each year—to ensure the revenues go to the populace.

Millions of dollars are missing from national coffers in oil deals, the report
notes.

Dear All,

Mr. Norbert Klein seems to believe that the 2008 Joint Communique has
legitimised Thailand's claims to the areas around Preah Vihear, while i pointed
to the 1962 court verdict and 1904 treaty which put those areas under Cambodian
control. Please read the exchanges below:
