1820 Khmer revolt. Resentment with the Vietnamizing process, harsh rule and 
forced labor leads to a Khmer revolt against the Vietnamese occupiers. The 
rebels, lead by a monk named Kai, slaughter Vietnamese residents in eastern 
Cambodia before being subdued by superior forces sent by the Vietnamese

UN Passes Strong Resolution on Cambodia Human Rights Abuses 
Feb. 27, 1982 : UN Commission on Human Rights meeting in Geneva adopted a 
resolution condemning Vietnam’s occupation of Cambodia as a violation of 
Cambodian human rights. The vote was 28 in favor, 8 against, and 5 abstentions.
 
Oct. 21, 1986 The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution A/RES/41/6, by vote 
of 116-21 with 13 abstentions, calling for a withdrawal of Vietnamese forces

The report names Gen. Ouk Kosa, head of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces 
military development zones; Cham Borey, brother of Commerce Minister Cham 
Prasidh; Dy Chouch, Hun Sen’s first cousin; Gen. Meas Sophea, commander of RCAF 
infantry; Sen. Ly Yong Phat, a CPP lawmaker and wealthy tycoon; senior Hun Sen 
adviser Om Yentieng; Sen. Lao Meng Khin, director of Pheapimex, one of 
Cambodia’s most powerful companies; Gen. Pol Sareoun, recently appointed 
commander-in-chief of RCAF; and Try Pheap, a pro-CPP tycoon.The environmental 
watchdog Global Witness has issued an indicting report on Cambodia’s potential 
oil and mineral wealth, angering again many senior officials.

The report, “Country for Sale,” outlines the exploitation of the country’s gas 
and mineral rights for the benefit of a small elite.

Cambodia is a country of ancient temples.  And the Khmer ancestors have many 
built marvelous temples like Angkor Wat, the Bayon and Preah Vihear. Today, now 
one knows how many ancient temples were built by Khmer ancestors. But according 
to recent studies conducted by Khmer and French experts, they found that there 
are approximately 4,000 temples and ancient sites dotted around Cambodia. For
