UN Passes Strong Resolution on Cambodia Human Rights Abuses Feb. 27, 1982 : UN Commission on Human Rights meeting in Geneva adopted a resolution condemning Vietnam’s occupation of Cambodia as a violation of Cambodian human rights. The vote was 28 in favor, 8 against, and 5 abstentions. 5. Oct. 21, 1986 The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution A/RES/41/6, by vote of 116-21 with 13 abstentions, calling for a withdrawal of Vietnamese forces from Cambodia. 6. At a meeting with the province’s leaders in Rach Gia Town, Triet said the government already has a preferential policy for Phu Quoc (which will be turned into an open economic zone after 2010) so ministries and sectors have to support Kien Giang to make the island grow faster. The president also praised Kien Giang for reaching the economic growth rate of 12.6 percent and reducing the rate of poor households to 7.45 percent last year. Before the meeting, the president visited Nguyen Trung Truc’s Temple, Kien Giang Association for Poor Patient Support, and Kien Cuong Seafood Export Processing Company.
