Calls for Phu Quoc’s faster development

President Nguyen Minh Triet on a visit to Kien Giang Province Thursday
requested the provincial People’s Committee to accelerate development at Phu
Quoc Island.

At a meeting with the province’s leaders in Rach Gia Town, Triet said the
government already has a preferential policy for Phu Quoc (which will be turned
into an open economic zone after 2010) so ministries and sectors have to
support Kien Giang to make the island grow faster.

The president also praised Kien Giang for reaching the economic growth rate of
12.6 percent and reducing the rate of poor households to 7.45 percent last year.
Before the meeting, the president visited Nguyen Trung Truc’s Temple, Kien
Giang Association for Poor Patient Support, and Kien Cuong Seafood Export
Processing Company.
