Vietnam continues to work closely with UN: PM

Vietnam will continue to cooperate closely with the United Nations to achieve a
variety of goals, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung told visiting UN Deputy
Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro in Hanoi Wednesday. VIETNAM INVASION &
OCCUPATION OF CAMBODIA IS CONDEMNED:
Oct. 21, 1986 The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution A/RES/41/6, by vote
of 116-21 with 13 abstentions, calling for a withdrawal of Vietnamese forces
from Cambodia.
Again Vietnam, has not respected the 10 UN resolutions calling Vietnam to cease
her occupation of Cambodia and remove all her troops from the country.

US president Reagan calls Vietnam to restore Cambodia Independence .
President Reagan's address to the 43d Session of the United Nations General
Assembly in New York, New York,September 26, 1988.
"Mr. Secretary-General, there are new hopes for Cambodia, a nation whose
freedom and independence we seek just as avidly as we sought the freedom and
independence of Afghanistan. We urge the rapid removal of all Vietnamese troops
...."

Migiro sent well wishes from the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to Dung and
praised Vietnam for its socio-economic achievements as well as for measures the
Vietnamese government has taken to minimize the negative effects of the global
economic slump and ensure social security to work toward reaching the
Millennium Development Goals.

Migiro, who took office as Deputy Secretary-General of the UN on February 1,
2007, is the third Deputy Secretary-General to be appointed since the post was
established in 1997. She spoke highly of progress made toward developing a
green office space called “One UN” in Vietnam, and said the UN is ready to
support Vietnam in dealing with challenges caused by climate change and the
rise of sea levels.
Dung said the country would always attach importance to its relationship with
the UN.
Dung said the One UN Initiative is being developed effectively in Vietnam
thanks to the efforts and cooperation of both parties. He said he hopes it will
help increase the effectiveness of UN activities in Vietnam.
Dung wished Migiro a successful trip in Vietnam and said the country applauds
the UN for organizing a high-level workshop on climate change and the rise of
sea levels.
He said Vietnam appreciates and will contribute to dealing with the problem of
climate change. In particular, Dung said, Vietnam will hold an Asia-Europe
Meeting (ASEM) Foreign Ministers Conference in Hanoi later this month, with the
problem of climate change being a topic for major discussion.
