Vietnam demands unconditional release of fishermen from China

Vietnam's foreign ministry spokesman Le Dzung
The Vietnamese government has continued to ask China to immediately and
unconditionally release 12 fishermen and two fishing boats it seized last
month, the foreign ministry spokesman said.

The fishermen and their vessels were seized by Chinese patrol boats on June 21
while the Vietnamese citizens were fishing in Vietnamese waters near the Hoang
Sa (Paracel) Archipelago.

Vietnam has also asked China to compensate the fishermen for damages to their
health and property, the spokesman, Le Dzung, said.
The government has also asked China to suggest a solution to the problem in
line with signed consular agreements between the two countries.
