RADIO FREE ASIA UNDER KEM SOS’S
WATCH
Radio
Free Asia’s under Kem Sos’s watch was leaning toward Hun Sen government.
1. Ratha, a political
activist and his association, witnessed the
slide down of Radio
Free Asia under Kem Sos watch from information radio to an opinion radio, even
worst, RFA under Kem Sos became a partisan radio, pro-Hun Sen’s government.
Ratha petitioned the
RFA stirring committee telling them that RFA now becoming opinion radio instead
of information radio. RFA stirring committee chief asked Ratha to provide
proofs. If your proofs are convincing we can right what was wrong doing.
Proofs will be very
hard to provide because Cambodian people are by nature very nice.
Cambodian people don’t want to bother anyone; Cambodian just wants to live
alone and let live.
So we are not
organized to get proof to convict someone. Rumors stated that Kem Sos was
always well received as a VIP by Hun Sen officials every time he went to
Cambodia and even Kem Sos had bragged to his RFA colleagues in his Washington
DC office that he owned a dozen hectares of land in Phnom Penh which valued
several
million of dollars. But we never got proofs of any of this.
2. Months had passed. In
2008, the CPP, Kem Sos, Sam Borin and Mayarith the th
ree pro-CPP RFA journalist
committed fatal errors. They provided by themselves the rope to hang them all.
It was their fall from the RFA pedestal.
3. Mayarith and two
other RFA journalists visited Cambodia during their summer times break. At Phnom
Penh Mayarith was well received by Interior ministry. Phnom Penh Municipality
Police assigned him a police car to transport him everywhere as he pleased. At
that time, the driver was Mayarith. Arrived a little late to cross the Mekong
River at Neak Loeung, he used his privilege of Police VIP to stop the ferryboat
and transport his car to cross the Mekong. Because of nervous pressure,
Mayarith car hit another car already packed in the ferryboat. Mayarith was very
angry against the other accidental car owner/driver. Mayarith used his
handcuffs to cuff the other accidental car owner who was scared to death and
fled very fast far away. Mayarith yelled to ferryboat employees that his is a
Police officer and all the ferry employees must help him to arrest the
offending driver.
The question
is: Why did Mayarith have the handcuffs? Why did Mayarith use the
Police power to cuff other people? Maybe, Mayarith is a CPP secrete Police
Officer? That was the proof the RFA chief needs to remove Mayarith from his
position RFA journalist reporter. You don’t hear him anymore on RFA broadcast.
4. Heng Vong Bun Chhat,
a Law Ph D., lawyer of Hu
n Sen’s government cursed a VOA journalist who has the
audacity to ask him by phone from his Washington DC office some thorny question
about the corruption of Cambodia Law School. The VOA journalist asked him
to comment about the rumor of corruption: Each Cambodia Law School
alumnae have to pay $30,000 to be appointed as magistrate in the Court of
Justice of Cambodia.
Heng Vong Bun Chhat
insulted and cursed the VOA journalist; you look down at us Cambodia because you
are backed up by a super power and you insult us; you’re arrogant and
coward. Dare you to come here in Phnom Penh, I’ll show you what we’re
capable to do. You too young, you don’t know how to work with other
people. Ask Samborin. He is the only one to know how to work with
us. That was the proof the RFA Chief wants to move Samborin to a modest
position without power in RFA Washington DC Office. You don’t hear him anymore
on RFA broadcast.
5. On Preah Vihear
Thailand-Cambodia dispute, Samborin interviewed Sean Pense for thirty minutes
and Hun Sen government officials for also thirty minutes. But when Samborin
edited his news in RFA broadcasting, the public can hear Sean Pengse opinion
only for a few minutes while Hun Sen official spoke non-sense for thirty
minutes.
Sean Pengse don’t want no more to be interviewed by Samborin who played the
game for Hun Sen’s governments. 0A
6. A week ago some RFA
journalists demonstrated against their lay off. RFA Washington DC officials
knew so well that the RFA journalists in RFA Phnom Penh office, the majority,
were Kem Sos’s people and pro-CPP. To avoid some legal problem relative to the
lay-off, Washington DC officials chose to wait until the expiration of their
contract. It was not Kem Sos who laid off his protégés Phnom Penh journalists.
It
was the expiration of their contracts which ended the RFA Phnom Penh jobs of
Kem Sos protégés. Kem Sos would never lay
off his own people.
So Washington DC
officials would like to wait until the end of their contract. When their
contracts were all expired, the Washington officials thanked them all, and did
not renew their contract to let them go. The objective was to clean the RFA
Phnom Penh Augean Stables, and recruit new independent Khmer journalists.
As expected, Kem Sos,
Mayarith and Samborin organized the demonstration to show up solidarity with
the “lay off” of RFA Phnom Penh journalists, whose contract were not renewed by
the RFA DC officials.
RFA Washington DC officials
had good reason to end these contracts. They
want to clean the RFA off any partisan journalist. They want RFA become an
information radio, but not a partisan pro-CPP radio. Before, the power of RFA
broadcasting was in the hand of
the three pro-CPP, Kem Sos, Samborin and
Mayarith. Right now, it is no more in the hand of these three pro-CPP people
and RFA Phnom Penh pro-CPP journalists.
The
RFA broadcasting was in the hand right now of new people recruited by RFA
Washington
DC officials. It was interesting to note that you don’t hear anymore Samborin
and Mayarith voice or news in RFA broadcasting.
This
success is possible thank to the tenacious action of team work of Sourn Ratha
and
some courageous, independent and free Khmer nationalist journalists.
After
the lay-off of partisan journalist, RFA will regild its emblems, that is
Cambodia Hope, hope of independence, freedom and sovereignty.
