On 25 October 2009, Meas Srey and Prum Chea, two Cambodians in Samraong commune bordering Vietnam, publicly demanded justice against great odds to defend their property right and others that is under threat from the new “border” posts planted on Meas Srey’s rice field.
It takes courage. At great risk to their personal and their family safety, they choose to struggle hard just t realize the basic rights, for all Cambodian for that matter, which we sometimes take for granted. In fact, they are currently incarcerated by the authorities. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Justice will prevail when the collective voices of the people are raised in its support. It is important to recognize this bravery act for its practical impact in decades to come in the Cambodian-Vietnam border discrepancy. The conscientious and courageous act of these simple peasants serves as a good reminder to Cambodians at all levels of institutions to choose principles, doing what is right rather than what is expedient, and to follow their conscience and to make a difference in their communities, their country. I salute them, for their struggle that promote equality and justice. They not only deserve our respect, they deserve our full support. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Cambodia Discussion (CAMDISC) - www.cambodia.org" group.
