PetroVietnam urged to become major group
Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and delegates
Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh urged the Vietnam National Oil and Gas
Group (PetroVietnam) to become a powerful economic group in the region and take
the lead in national industrialisation and modernisation.
The Party leader made the request while attending PetroVietnam’s first party
congress for the 2010-2015 term in Hanoi on July 23.
PetroVietnam’s brand name and image have been constantly growing both in the
country and abroad, underlining its leading role in stabilising the
macro-economy, ensuring energy security and protecting the nation’s sovereignty
at sea, said the Party leader.
He added that the group’s achievements are of great significance particularly
in politics, the economy, society, security and national defence which reflects
the Party and State’s directions and guidelines for the development of the oil
and gas industry.
He asked the group to work harder to achieve sustainable development, increase
its competitiveness and ensure the country’s energy security along with
protecting the environment and maintaining national security.
To reach these targets, PetroVietnam needs to pay more attention to developing
its human resources, step up the application of scientific and technological
advances and improve the capacity of its managers at all levels, he said.
At the two-day congress, the group set a goal of reaching an 18-22% annual
growth rate in the near future and expand its operations into other fields
while keeping its main focus on oil and gas exploration, production, and

UN Passes Strong Resolution on Cambodia Human Rights Abuses
Feb. 27, 1982 : UN Commission on Human Rights meeting in Geneva adopted a
resolution condemning Vietnam’s occupation of Cambodia as a violation of
Cambodian human rights. The vote was 28 in favor, 8 against, and 5 abstentions.
5. Oct. 21, 1986 The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution A/RES/41/6, by
vote of 116-21 with 13 abstentions, calling for a withdrawal of Vietnamese
forces from Cambodia.
As of today,Cambodia is still occupied by the Vietnamese troops despite the
call from the US president to Vietnam to cease her occupation of Cambodia since
1988.
Cambodia needs Independence from Vietnam and the Vietnamese invaders.
Vietnam must cease her occupation of Cambodia at once.
