WASHINGTON, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- A Democratic veteran in the U.S. House of
Representatives was found guilty Tuesday on 11 ethics charges.
Charles Rangel, a 20-term congressman from New York, was convicted by a
subcommittee of the House ethics committee on charges surrounding his
wrongdoings in personal finances and fundraising efforts.
Pressured by those alleged ethics violations, the 80-year-old politician quit
in March from his post as the chairman of House Ways and Means Committee, a
powerful tax-writing body.
After Tuesday's conviction, the full House ethics committee will take on the
case and decide the punishment, which might include a formal reprimand or
censure. Each of those punishments requires a vote on the House floor and a
simple majority.
Another possible but unlikely punishment is expulsion, which requires a
two-thirds majority in the floor vote.
Rangel disputed the panel's conviction in a statement issued Tuesday.
"How can anyone have confidence in the decision of the ethics subcommittee when
I was deprived of due process rights, right to counsel and was not even in the
room?" the statement said.
"I can only hope that the full committee will treat me more fairly, and take
into account my entire 40 years of service to the Congress before making any
decisions on sanctions," he said.
Despite an image spotted by those ethics investigations, Rangel won a 21st term
in the midterm elections earlier this month.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said
Tuesday he is confident that Europe can tackle the debt crisis which
threatening the future of its single currency.
"I think it is completely within Europe's choice to manage," Geithner said at
Wall Street Journal CEO Council Annual Meeting held in Washington.
The future of euro, the currency of 16 European nations, has been in hot debate
since the burst of Greek sovereign debt crisis last year.
The international financial markets have already pounced on Greece, Ireland and
Portugal, the three euro countries which are in debt crisis and post
uncertainty to the fate of euro.
Geithner said that he was sure European leaders had the tools to deal with the
crisis.
"Europe did put in place in the summer -- it took a while to do it, but they
did put in place in the summer -- a very strong set of financial instruments to
help those countries manage through the very difficult challenges they have,"
he said.
He also urged Europe to act quickly.
After years of fiscal irresponsibility, many eurozone countries are now in
deepening debt trouble. Many economists predict that the euro may collapse if
the debt problem is not properly managed.
It was reported Tuesday that Ireland's government is edging closer to a
multi-billion-euro bailout as the EU piles on the pressure for the eurozone
member to sort out its debt crisis.

Strong Resolution on Cambodia Human Rights Abuses
Feb. 27, 1982 : UN Commission on Human Rights meeting in Geneva adopted a
resolution condemning Vietnam’s occupation of Cambodia as a violation of
Cambodian human rights. The vote was 28 in favor, 8 against, and 5 abstentions.
Oct. 21, 1986 The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution A/RES/41/6, by vote
of 116-21 with 13 abstentions, calling for a withdrawal of Vietnamese forces
from Cambodia.
10 UN RESOLUTIONS,(1979-1988) VOTED BY 116 UN MEMBER COUNTRIES ,CALL VIETNAM TO

As of today,Cambodia is still occupied by the Vietnamese troops despite the
call from the US president to Vietnam to cease her occupation of Cambodia since
1988.
Cambodia needs Independence from Vietnam and the Vietnamese invaders.
Vietnam must cease her occupation of Cambodia at once.
