Subject: cell phone scam >From Suellen May 17, 2011: I just received a call on my cell phone that was obviously a scam, so after doing some checking on the internet that confirmed it, I thought I should warn my friends and family to not answer any incoming call from 876 prefix #. The number that called me was 876-434-8188. I played along for a while with this woman who called telling me I had won $450,000 in a MegaMillions drawing and that I had won it on December 31, but she just realized no one had called me, so it was imperative that I get a receipt from Western Union today showing that I had paid the shipping & handling fee for them to deliver the money to me, as they would deliver it within 12 hours. I told her this was a scam, that you never have to pay money to have a prize delivered and she was just insistent that I had won this money. She was very hard to understand. When I asked her what my name was or where she was calling, she pretended there was a bad connection and would start over by saying, Ma'am....and go thru' her whole spiel again. I went on-line and found out that 876 prefix is from Jamaica and there is a whole bunch of people that have been called and some have lost thousands of dollars to these dirtbags. I guess once they think they have you hooked, they keep calling you. If you want to check out what I googled, it's the 876 Jamaican Phone Scam site at http://www.ucan.org/blog/telecommunications/landline/800_301_7195_876_536_5711_Jamaican_International_Rates_Scam. Take it from me, look at the number that's calling and don't answer it if it looks suspicious!
