The Khmers did not kill so they had to eat spoil meat like prahok? Do you even know how prahok is made and the tremendous efforts one goes to get those fishes? You would think that Khmer communities who only until as late as 1950s in Kampuchea Krom and in Kampuchea would have starved to death for lack of spoiled and dead fish to make prahok because they did not do business with Chinese or Vietnamese. Prahok has been in existence in Khmer society probably predating Angkor to Chenla and Phnom period where it was a major seafaring. As in old times and now, we fish and hunt. We make traps, have arrows, and other tools of catching live mammals as well as fish products. The law of do not kill only applies to Buddhist monks who repeat the five principles and those of ascetics and devotees. It does not apply merchants, fishermen, and farmers that the Khmer identity comprises of. Also fabricating the do not kill principles of Buddhism to Cambodian implied incompetence of economy and gather food, ignores the fact that the Burmese, Sri Lankan, Laotion, and Thais are also Theravada Buddhists and also practice hunting live games. NeakKampuchea just puts everything and try do what Khmer would say "reail stip", putting his hands everywhere hoping to catch a frog in the rice field and maybe if his hand and net his wide enough he'll catch one.
