Most of Khmer people,especially intellectual, academia and politicians know so little about the people next doors, they know Yuon Siam and Laos, but not their history, social and culture. From generation to generation khmer people hated Yuon and Siem, we curse Yuon " A kantorp" Siem "A Kapi.Why historically speaking these two neighbors treated khmer people like animal and for the past two hundred years, the kingdom of Kampuchea was under either by Yuon or Siem prior the arrival of French.
During the 19th.century, the country was under full control of Vietnam, emperor Ming Mang called Khmer people "barbarian " he ordered his General Truong Minh Yang to apply harsh treatement in term of hard labor, violence and killing to those cambodians who opposeed imperial order. Cambodian must be proud to have master like Emperor Minh Mang. During that period, Chakry dynasty king from Ram I to Rama IV knew Khmer than Khmer know themselves, saving Cambodia from Vietnam, King Rama III (Leotla Naphalai ) sent big number of Thai soldiers commanded by Chao Prya Bodin to repulse Vietnamese from Cambodia and restored King Ang Duong to the throne with no physical royal palace at Oudong, the number of Khmer people who lived in Oudong and near by town about 10,000 people less tha Khao I Dang Camp during the 80's, beacsue people had scattered all over the country or hiding in the jugle to evade from the non-stop war. During the colonial era French imported thousand and thousand Vietnmeses into the kingdom to work in rubber plantation and adminstrative job in the colonial adminstration.Thai was upset with French because of territorial lost to French in Cambodian and Laos, they set up Khmer Issarak to fight against French, most Khmer Issarak at that time had no clue they were fighting for, in fact for the benefit of Thai. East side of the kingdom, Vietnam had long been struggling to liberate themselves from French colony, from the North to the South they were eager to get rid off French from their country, they determined to evict French from their soil and it worked,the defeat of French at Diem Bien Phue made Eisenhower and Churchill felt embarassing toward their world war II allies.Vietnam knew without Laos and Cambodian together, the liberation from French was impossible, therefore Vietnam had to drag Cambodian and Lao to their struggle, formation of Vietminh was the first step for the three countries to carry out arm struggle until Geneva conference.
