I know nothing about the 12 signs. But, one interesting about the calender was put into a Korean TV series : The GreatQueen Seondeok. The Korean astrology knew how to calculate when the eclipse will occur. The nobles used it to make people in believing that as sign of Mandate from Heaven to their advantages. When I was young in Cambodia , I had witnessed both the solar and lunar eclipses. As I recall correctly, old folks won't allow pregnant women to be exposed to the eclipse. Another weird Khmer belief was about Dragon Tail.(Twister or Tornado). I saw one descending from the sky on a partly cloudy evening, right above over our soccer field. Old people told us to use tumpuok to chase it away. And it worked. It was known in Cambodia until -- at least -- the first half of the twentieth century (as attested by Um Pouv's book, but perhaps it can have come back from Siam) in the Royal Palace (that's why I was asking in one of my previous emails who was in charge of the calendar calculations in Cambodia nowadays). Solar zodiac and its astrology is very commonplace in the West but it didn't originate from Europe. It's from Babylon (in present Irak) perhaps 16 centuries BC, so more than 3000 years ago and then spread to the West (Europe) and to the East (India).
