 Dear compatriots,

The book by Prof. Kenton Clymer "Troubled Relations - The United States and
Cambodia Since 1870", Norther Illinois University Press, ISBN-13:
978-0-89580-615-0, makes very interesting reading. It is based on
declassified confidential documents of the US State Dept. It strongly
implicates the role of the US anticommunist hawks at the State Dept in
Cambodia's troubles since post-WWII through to the tragedy of the Khmer
Rouge. King then Prince Sihanouk was caught between the US naive
anticommunist policies and its allies (Cambodia's immediate neighbours) who
had their own agenda for Cambodia that we, Khmers, all know. Had the US
evaluated carefully the Prince last desperate call in 1973 to meet Dr.
Henri Kissinger and to negotiator with the US, the Khmer Rouge tragedy
could have been avoided, but the hardliners in Washington (with their
blinkered logic upon military solution) had their way. Here is the link

Best regards,
S.
