Painful Memory Sim Var, Son Ngoc Thanh, H.M. My Father, H.M. My Mother and Me By N. Sihanouk
Beijing, January 3, 2007 According to the No. 1 Astrologer (Hora Yuok) of King Preah Sisowath Monivong, my maternal Grandfather, who set up my horoscope, all my life long, I would have enemies who are sworn to my doom. In the 20th Century, Son Ngoc Thanh (Khmer Kampuchea Krom) and Sim Var were incontestably, on their own decision, my worst enemies, hating me to an unimaginable level. Nevertheless, these two Personalities were always provided with affection by the Family of my Father (Sutharot) and by my Mother. The 2 important Sihanouk-haters never rejected the princely and royal affection. *Son Ngoc Thanh*: The French arrested him in 1946 in Phnom Penh, sent to France, then sentenced to death. Son Ngoc Thanh’s “crime”? He brought (in 1941) hundred of Buddhist Khmer monks to demonstrate against France, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia was then militarily occupied by the Japanese Imperial Army. Following this demonstration, Thanh was able to flee to Japan. In 1945, before the pullout of the Japanese Imperial Army, Thanh became “my” Prime Minister. 1946: Return of the French colonialism to the Khmer Kingdom; Thanh arrested. Sentenced to death, Thanh, thanks to me, became a simple “exiled person” to France, on the Côte d’Azur! … with enough money to live well (money given from my Government’s Budget). Thanks to me, Thanh was able to finally return back to Cambodia. To “thank me,” Thanh entered the maquis (very close to a Thailand-accomplice which was anti-Sihanouk). Thanhists’ radio and leaflets concentrated their “aim” on Sihanouk who must be “destroyed in order to save Cambodia”! Thanh’s last stunt: his very zealous help to Lon Nol (March 18, 1970 Putsch). x X x *Sim Var*: My National Defense Minister during the era of Royal Crusade for total Independence of Cambodia (1952-1953). After my abdication in 1955, Sim Var, thanks to me, was nominated by H.M. King Suramarit, my Father, as Head of the Royal Government. Sim Var’s historical stunt: “Dissolution of the Sangkum Reastr Niyum’s 1st National Assembly in which the MPs were freely elected by our People (82% of voters under the supervision of international officials). Sim Var obtained the highest Agreement from H.M King Preah Suramarit, my Father, for this dissolution. Sim Var could neither tolerate the Sihanoukists, nor the Sim Var-hate by SRN MPs! After being Prime Minister, Sim Var, on my successive requests sent to the SRN President in Power (in full democratic legality), obtained different positions he wanted, in particular, that of Ambassador to Japan. x X x H.M my Mother recommended to me to give confidence to Sim Var, “[a] sure friend of our Family” and to devote to him a strong affection. I did not disobey my Mother. But Thanh, Sim Var, and later, the Lonnolians and Sirikmatakians, accused me of being “extremely-corrupted” –sic!–, of “stealing money from the State and from the People” –sic!–, of being a “Dictator” and “Feudal” –sic! They affirmed that “Cambodia’s salvation will be assured only with the total elimination and destruction of Sihanouk and Sihanoukism.” History and the real Khmer People will judge it.
