The focal point of Davan's comment is the word "yuon". For simplicity, we just use two dimensions geometry. Therefore, there are 360 degrees way of looking toward this focal point. Things had been dramatically changed over time since the creation of the UN after WWII. Racism is controversial, a matter of conflicting opinion or point of view. It is pretty obvious that the West has different definition than yours, otherwise you won't write this article. The most likelihood to counter your definition of "Yuon" will be the word "Nigger". The word "Nigger" had been in the English vocabulary as long as the word "Yuon" in Khmer, why is it becoming racist word ? One person that I was amazed of the he is using word "Yuon" was Sihanouk. I happened to listen to his speech back the 60's and also the way he acted in the company of a VC woman. Sihanouk never used the word "Yuon" in his speech back in the 60's. He always use the word "Vietnam". But, he completely changed after the 90's and he even defined "Yuon" as a race like crocodile. But, he never admit his mistakes or faults for feeding the crocodile. The same goes for Raingsy. On top of that, he kept using this thing to attack his opponent that his opponent can use it to fire back at him. To me, Raingsy is not that intelligent. He is dumb as mule. If he need help from someone, he should not make awkward situation for the person he is asking for help. Most of the West politicians will try to stay away from a racist, let alone helping hi/her. One person that is surprising me is a person who had also been the victim of racial discrimination when he was young, namely President Obama. I don't know if the majority of American people are well aware of this issue. I bet if they do know that President Obama is extending his helping hand to a criminal and racist like Raingsy, the damage to his reputation won't be small. Whining over the things of the past won't help your cause that much. Which country didn't expand their territory, including our native(Cambodia) and your adopted country(Canada) in the past? During the peak of Angkor period, King Suriavarman made two attempts to conquer Annam(Vietnam back then). It he was able to achieve his task, Annam will disappear from the world map like those little nations that Cambodia did to them. The nations of the Canadian native Indians are completely wiped out from the world map. So, almost all the native Indian in America continent, from the North pole all the ways to the South pole by the hand of the Europeans. ________________________________ From: Kenneth So <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, September 4, 2013 8:20 AM Subject: Re: Is "yuon" a pejorative word?
