Just so you know, there is an option that allows you to suspend mail
delivery without actually unsubscribing (same place as all the other
subscription options). The down side is that you wouldn't get to see what
is discussed. You could check the archives for the times you were gone
however.
Another thing that could help would be to switch to digest mode so the
messages get batched rather than delivered individually.
