I'm going to make a rack and pinion focusing system for the 4X5 monorail camera I'm building (both front and rear standards will use the same rack).  I'm going to turn and cut the rack and the pinion from hard maple but I was curious what the best tooth count would be for the pinion.  I was thinking an eight tooth pinion would be just about right but if anyone has done this before I would like to hear your opinions.  Also, if anyone has a metal rack and pinion system on thier camera I would love the tooth count on that as well.  Thanks for the help!
