Unfortunately all they have are sandblasted ones, which I don't 
believe would work as well as the etched variety - not as bright. But 
I can't speak with authority here. Anyone knows for sure?

I did that once. All I could say is that theoretically it could work. 
My results however resembled the sandblasted kind, with more 
unevenness.

The best home remedies so far seem to be chemically etching it, or to 
tape 3M Magic tape on glass or plexiglass.

At one time I came across some rigid fresnel lenses with goundglass 
surface on the other side, big enough for 5x7. Wish I had bought a 
ton of it.
