Hello, One thing to keep in mind when designing the bellows dimensions for a camera is flare!
The more room you have around the film at the rear standard, the less reflection you'll get hitting the film from the interior surface of the bellows. Many people have noted that the best configuration for shooting 4x5 film is through a 5x7 camera with a reducing back. You don't get extra density build-up on the film, thus ensuring maximum sharpness and contrast on your negatives. Hope this helps. Regarding vignetting the image with the bellows, if the bellows is properly made this should never be a problem. The major issue for me has always been flexibility of the material and how thin it is when it folds up. Shooting wide angle with a stiff long bellows can be a nightmare. But I've never had a bellows vignette the image.
