William Nettles raises some interesting points concerning 3d camera 
construction.  

For starters, consider the "1-to-30" rule of thumb.  This is a very crude 
guide, but it works in many instances.  It says that you need to take the 
distance of the nearest meaningful foreground object in a particular scene 
and divide it by 30 in order to get the proper distance between the center 
points of the lenses for good stereo separation in 3d photography.  But as I 
say, that's crude, and there are some highly complicated formulas to cover 
many situations involving distance between the nearest and farthest object, 
closeups, distance shots, etc.  I strongly recommend that anyone interested 
in this stuff, as I am, subscribe to the Photo-3d group at 
[EMAIL PROTECTED]  There's more information there than most people 
can possibly absorb.
