William Nettles raises some interesting points concerning 3d camera construction.
For starters, consider the "1-to-30" rule of thumb. This is a very crude guide, but it works in many instances. It says that you need to take the distance of the nearest meaningful foreground object in a particular scene and divide it by 30 in order to get the proper distance between the center points of the lenses for good stereo separation in 3d photography. But as I say, that's crude, and there are some highly complicated formulas to cover many situations involving distance between the nearest and farthest object, closeups, distance shots, etc. I strongly recommend that anyone interested in this stuff, as I am, subscribe to the Photo-3d group at [EMAIL PROTECTED] There's more information there than most people can possibly absorb.
