Well, I haven't actually done this yet, but here's what I was going to try.
I've got an old Omega 45E view camera that has ceased its useful life as a
view camera (bellows shot, worn locks, etc.) My thought was I would remove
the standards on one end or the other so I just had the rail clamp with the
geared focusing mechanism in place. Make a camera support plate that would
attach, cut the rail down from the existing 16 inches to maybe 8 inches and
there you have it. Rough position could be done by loosening the rail clamp
and sliding to whole stage to approxiamte position and the geared fine focus
would be there for fine adjustment. This would not give lateral movement
which may be desirable for your application. I suppose I could leave the
lateral shift mechanism in place on the standards..... I'm going to go look
at that.

Subject: [Cameramakers] macro focus rail

has anyone made a focus rail for macro-photography?
I'm going to make one, for my SLR, and I have several
designs in mind. I was thinking of copying the
Novoflex design, but then I thought I could probably
make it simpler. Anyone already do this? Photos?
                                  Thanks,
                                      Matt
