I made the suggestion (not original with me) of using auto valve grinding compound to do the frosting of the ground glass. People may not have the 400 grit alumina handy. In a post about a year ago on this same subject (another news group), I had replies from as far away as Australia of successful ground glass making using the valve grinding compound.
