Hello:

I have a 135 mm f4 Schneider lens from a Kodak Retina Reflex S 35 mm SLR. It
had a bad iris, so I removed it, leaving it wide open.

Puzzled by format-specific lenses and frustrated by the cost of them, I am
looking at a homebrew experimental lens.

However, if I take that Schneider and look thru it in both directions and
move it until I see an in-focus image, it is not at anything near 135 mm.

Also, closest to the film plane, a small lens element is removable. I was
thinking about inserting a 'Waterhouse' stop (aperture) inside there.

What determines how large an image a lens will create, and what significance
does the distance at which one can "eyeball" focus an image have?

I was hoping I could use it for a slightly wide angle 4 x 5 foamcore box
camera.

In a misuse application like this, what would the focus on the lens do?

Thanks

Murray
