Modern CCFL drive circuits are based on the old 1950's Royer oscillator
(which used nickel transformers and ran in the audio freq. range).

They've been miniaturized for laptops and run much higher freqs. with
ferrite transformers.

Check out Linear Technology - Jim Williams there has written exhaustive
articles and app. notes exploring the excentricities of this circuit. I
don't remember their website....it's ltc.com or linear-tech.com, something
like that.

To save your self the agony of obtaining or winding (not recommended) the
high voltage transformer, find an outdated scanner and cannibalize it. I
just pulled a 150 x 2 mm CCFL tube and driver out, but I wanna keep it for
something.
