Tried something similar with an A4 flatbed as paper for enlarging (would have given about 8M pixels at 300dpi). The light source is very bright and most drivers (and probably the electronics) won't allow a 'long' exposure. All I got was the odd bit of shadow. Mind you if there is a Linux driver (well they supply the source code!) for your scanner it might be tweakable (mine didn't).
