Now that it seems that the coding side of Camino is starting to pick
up, I would like to spin off a new thread on getting the marketing side
also rolling. I want to see Camino be as successful as Safari has now
become, if not in downloads then at least in exposure and user
awareness.
So. Selling Camino. Here's just a few thoughts on moving forward here.
1. Revamp the camino project pages, to make them
a. better looking
b. more accessible to the average user (fully separate the developer
stuff from the end-user information)
c. more informative, with information specifically targeted to
Camino's audience (all level of end-users [newbie, geeklord] and
wannabe developers)
d. did I say better looking?
e. standards-compliant (XHTML, CSS for layout and look and feel)
(I'm willing to take this part on)
2. Gather a few folks who are good with words to handle PR for camino
(sending out press releases, nudging the big pubs for reviews, etc.)
3. Maybe form an group of Camino "evangelists" (I kind of hate that
word) to help foster grassroots awareness and adoption of Camino.
What I think we need are a small team of serious, skilled folks to
bunker down, plan some of this stuff out, and then get out there and
get things rolling. I have some time I can contribute in any of these
areas, though my strengths are in the design and words area.
For now, I'd like to get feedback on ideas for where this should go,
but I'm also interested in seeing who's interested in contributing some
time. I definitely do NOT want to engage in design by committee, so at
some point someone will have to "sign off" on what's going on in this
area. Mike?
I'm willing to toss my hat in the ring to do a full site redesign, and
maybe some of the content, but I'm hoping there are others out there
interested in contributing.
Neil
