I also like it without the splash screen. It takes about 3-4 seconds for the window to appear on my 12" PowerBook G4 (867 MHz).
Here's another me too post. On my relatively old 400MHz G4, it feels speedy. Something like 4 seconds for a window to appear. Very nice.
