The browser downloads the link using the correct MIME-type.

As it stands, if you click on a link for a file with extension .dmg
(MacOS X disk image), and the Web server doesn't set the file type
properly, Camino downloads the file into the browser window.
This results in a lot of garbage text.

Hopefully this will indeed be fixed. A workaround is to select
"Download link as..." from the contextual menu and save to a
location of choice on your hard drive.
