hi.

I just downloaded the latest nightly of Camino. (2004012303, running on OS X
10.3.1) It's been a while since I've done this because I'm stuck on a
dial-up connection just now, but the 0.7 release (which I sadly keep having
to go back to), is *ancient. okay, firstly, WTF!!! One word. Bookmarks.

On launch there are none. The format is updated maybe? Or something? So why
doesn't it update my old bookmarks on the first launch? Brain-dead.

There's no panic, I backup every day, but if I didn't, I'd be panicking.
Then I'd be totally frustrated looking for the bookmarks file, which *still*
lives in a folder that doesn't even share its name with the application that
created it. WAKE UP GUYS! I might be a super-dooper power user, but not
everyone is. "normal" users would just be going "FUUUUUUUCK!!!!! WHERE'S ME
EFFIN BOOKIES!?!"

So I locate the old bookmarks, they are still where they should be. Weird.
Then why isn't Camino displaying them? I trash the file to start fresh,
relaunch Camino. Then I import my old bookmarks manually (which I should
_not_ have to do, of course) which takes roughly forever.

Now my fast Camino is a sludgemire app. Slower than slow. But at least I
have my bookmarks back, and my toolbar is filled again, all is well. I quit
Camino (after exporting the bookmarks again, just in case) and check all
really *is* well.

Is 4.5MB too big for a bookmarks file? Of course not. But still, when I
relaunch Camino, once again, no bookmarks. It just ignores them. No message,
no error, just ignores them completely. Thank you guys, you really make my
day.

Now it sits there, at 100% CPU, doing absolutely nothing at all. Maybe it's
opening my bookmarks *after* getting the homepage up and giving me access to
the browsing functions, which I think sounds like a neat idea, so I wait.
And wait.

After a few minutes, hey hey! bookmarks appear!!! The *default set*!!! Aw
fuck. Toggling the bookmarks editor gives me a blank bookmark editor. Even
the default set, which I can access from the bookmark menu isn't there, nor
are all the other categories, even the history.

If Camino has a problem with large bookmark files, it should say so. If it
can't display the bookmarks file for some reason, it should say why, and
perhaps offer some remedy. Being free is no excuse for being shoddy. As it
stands it looks like the bookies are gone forever, which would be
disastrous.

I won't see replies, just fix it for the release, please.

;o)

ps. Forgive me for being unkind, I'm just pissed off.
