A few years back I wrote a plugin to Internet Explorer which put a new button on the toolbar called the "Cycle" button. It's purpose was to load the next site from a list of sites that I specified. I wrote it because I constantly found myself visiting the same 8 or 9 sites all the time, usually news sites to catch up on the latest happenings. I got tired of typing in the URL or hunting through favorites and just wanted a button that would load the next site with a single click.
Have you considered using multiple tabs' bookmarks (or "tab groups")?
I enjoy using them every day and they look like they're the solution to your problem.
I check my "regular" sites by selecting different tab groups. I've got about 8 for the early morning, 2 in the afternoon and a handful of blogs in the evening.
