This is an OS X bug: you'll find the same happens with Fetch (ftp package), iTunes, MS Word and several other apps. The OS does not correctly notify the fileopen dialog box of the last mod date of recently changed files (or even the existence of new files) anything like often enough. The Cocoa frameworks open file dialog has fewer problems than the Carbon frameworks version, but neither work as well as File Open did in OS 9. They call it progress! :/
