So today I find my Finder acting flaky, so I re-start. Prior to that, I did have a Camino crash, but Talkback didn't want to send it's data, so every time I re-launch Camino, Talkback first starts up as Camino loads in the background. Otherwise, all SEEMED well.

Running applications exit gracefully. Re-launch 0.8.1 Camino. Ach, there goes Talkback not connecting. BUT, not a bookmark in sight. First go check ~/Library/Application Support/Camino/ and find the bookmarks.plist only 4k. Create and modify date are both this morning. Somehow it totally wiped it and started fresh.

Not at all a good thing! I HAD thought that there was a mechanism for backing up this critical file... that maybe it was the bookmarks.xml file in the same folder. But that file is dated 2/1/04, so it's obviously an obsolete file. Besides, it's one fifth the size of the real bookmarks file.

Very bad situation. While I DO have a fairly recent backup to go to, I think about so many users that do this sort of thing somewhat casually. Ones who may backup ~/Documents, but not necessarily ~/Library.

Is there REALLY no mechanism for protecting this critical file? For as long as I remember, browsers always took care of this... I guess my mistake thinking Camino did as well!
