I've got 2 tabs open Distrowatch and MacWorld forums and my cpu is running 93-99% mostly 98%.

For another example, try opening up three windows viewing threads on IMDB. Try these:

www.imdb.com/title/tt0410975/board/nest/13573661
www.imdb.com/title/tt0410975/board/nest/13287801
www.imdb.com/title/tt0410975/board/nest/13503253

All the pages have an large animated gif advertisement, and on my iBook 800MhZ G3 with nothing much else open, it's darn slow - I mean even the *UI elements* are slow. I would think that AppKit could be designed so that UI -responsiveness processes (dragging scroolbars, updating widgets) could be handled outside the main app thread/process, and so wouldn't be slowed down by anything going on there (that might not do anything about window redraw, but it would take care of making sure windows highlight and scroll bars drag when you ask them to..)
