This morning I attempted to get to http://vsbeducation.ca . Camino promptly tried to reach www.vsbeducation.ca. I got to the address by using a back door method I know about. That redirected me to vsbeducation.ca.
I just typed vsbeducation.ca into my location bar, hit return, and Camino loaded the correct domain. I removed the site from my history and typed http://vsbeducation.ca and also got the expected results.
If I type a word that is not a search keyword, e.g. foobar, Camino will attempt to visit http://www.foobar.com, as will other browsers. However, if you postpend a TLD or prepend a protocol string or a server name (http:// or test.), then Camino will visit the URI exactly as entered (well, prepending a the http:// protocol if you didn't do so, but otherwise...).
So typing vsbeducation.ca or http://vsbeducation.ca should take you to the correct site. If that's not happening, something is fouled up, either with your Camino profile or your network.
Is this behaviour in anyway affected by URL completion preference?
Possibly, but I'm not familiar with those. Or the keyword/location bar search prefs.
Another one which happens with regularity is getting www.htttp when I've typed an address using the full URL. It is possible that this is a combination of my typing error and Camino's default behaviour.
There are three t characters in that, so typing is a possible cluprit :-) Although that should bring up an error page these days. It might be an interaction between typing and keyword/location bar search, too. I believe Firefox defaults to some sort of search behavior when you enter a non-keyword, non-URI string into the location bar, but Camino does not (it defaults to http://www.string.com completion); perhaps you've ported some of the Fx settings?
