Hello List,

A lot of time ago I bugzilled a proposal for cookies,

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172812

Well as I understand, most of you must be accepting cookies
by default ;) otherwise you would also be very annoyed by the
countless clicks on "allow" or "deny".

I am one of those people who tend to deny most cookies, and
accept only those from sites I need a service from - or those
where I have logins, of course.

The option "expire cookies at end of session" is a nice idea
(which is settable thru network.cookies.lifetimePolicy i think),
but nowadays Camino is so stable, that a session might keep on
going for days or even weeks. What I would like to have
is an option to "accept cookies until window or tab is closed",
(optionally, the session to expire when the window is closed).

A setting like this would be very nice, as it would allow
for full site functionality, but still preserving privacy,
as the user will be getting a new cookie after closing
the tab or window.

Also, it would be nice to have something like what I posted
in bugzilla, i.e. a button on the toolbar, to change cookies
on the fly for the site being surfed in the current window.

I imagine something like this:

{ sexy cookie button on toolbar } <-- click

--- Sheet ---

Change cookie settings for domain xxxx.yyy.yy

- Radio buttons:-
[ ] expire when closing
[ ] expire when quitting
[ ] let site decide

- Buttons -
[reload current page with new settings]
[reload root page]
[do not reload]

--- /Sheet ---

The radios choice and the default button should be
dynamically set depending on current settings.

Just one of the countless possible enhancement ideas...

I know there _are_ issues with such an idea: for example
the cookie button should get a different color depending
on the current setting for the current site, so that
the user is aware of what is going on with cookies...

Any opinions?

keep it up, Camino just rocks... :)

Lorenzo
