That's one part of
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=350331, which we hope to
resolve before 1.1 ships. In the meantime, the workaround is to
resize the window to force a redraw.
Other workarounds are hit the enter key after dragging the image or
use File/Open File.
I forgot to mention using the "Open File" menu didn't render it either.
