Robert,
(and those following along at home).

Thanks for providing access to that site for testing.

Turns out, you webmail service relies on a bug in Gecko
1.8/Firefox2/Camino 1.5.1.
On trunk builds (Fx 3.0 alpha, Camino 2.0a1pre, Gecko 1.9), the column
collapses and clips those buttons because that bug is fixed.
That webmail service relies on Gecko 1.8 incorrectly handling the
nowrap attribute on inline elements, forcing those buttons to expand
somehow, and by expanding the buttons, enlarging the column.
Here is a minimised testcase from that webmail interface that
illustrates the issue.

So, it is not a bug in Gecko 1.9 trunk anymore. [1]

Robert, you could, if you feel like contact your webmail service and
tell them about that bug.

Or you could fix that on your side, by adding the following code
snippet to your userContent.css:
--- copy the following ---
@-moz-document url-prefix(https://webmailcluster.perfora.net/) {
 .submit_link,  .submit_link_mark {width:auto !important}
}
--- end copy ---

[1] and what fixed the older bug is this
