To answer my question: adding camli.gthomas.eu to /etc/hosts as 127.0.0.1 
fixes this problem, publisher starts flawlessly.

But something is wrong with the proxy:

As far as I know, caddy ends TLS, so camlistored shouldn't want to proxy 
HTTPS.
