I feel like the name permanode is a little counter-intuitive, at least for me. In my mind permanence is rather like immutability and permanodes are mutable. I believe that the name permanode is more about the intent of the node as being a fairly permanent place that I can visit to find the current truth about something (e.g. the current set of files in a directory).
