Diocese nears threshold on bankruptcy
As he prepares for a yearlong deployment in Iraq, U.S. Army investigator Brandon Croly
feels little hope for a resolution to the sexual-molestation lawsuit he filed against
the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson. The diocese is making preparations to declare
bankruptcy, and the man accused of molesting Croly, the Rev. Fernando Manzo, has been

As 5- and 6-year-olds everywhere step off the bus to their first day of school, some
Tucsonans recall their own ecstatic - or traumatic - first days. The Star solicited
readers' memories of their first day in class and also interviewed a few prominent
Tucsonans to recount that thrilling and sometimes terrifying day.

Heavner has learned plenty in one season
Twelve months ago, Kris Heavner was just trying to blend in. As a bright-eyed
