Some of my favorite shareware programs are small utilities
that solve problems in a nifty way, one-trick ponies of a
kind that do only one thing, but do that very well. This week,
I'll tell you about one-trick ponies that help you get more
out of the Internet. Whether you want to get the lowdown on
cookies, track your true connection speed, clean up
Internet Explorer Favorites or more, you'll find it here.

IN THIS ISSUE:

* IECookiesView: Get the Lowdown on Your Cookies
* DUN Manager: Manage Your Internet Connections
* DU Meter: Measure Your Connection Speed
* Favorites Sweeper: Clean Up Your Favorites List
* File of the Week: AutoWhat? 2

IECookiesView: Get the Lowdown on Your Cookies

Your hard disk is littered with cookies, but good luck
figuring out what each one is used for. That's where this
utility comes in. It will display the details of each cookie,
let you delete it or save it as a text, and it'll even search
for cookies by domain. It's freeware.

DUN Manager: Manage Your Internet Connections

If you're looking to manage your Internet connections - both
dial-up and broadband like cable or DSL - you need this software.
It'll automate dialing in, including scheduled dial-ins, automatically
start a VPN when you connect, perform diagnostics, graph your
connection speed, and much more. It's shareware; registration
fee is $40.

DU Meter: Measure Your Connection Speed

How fast is your Internet connection? You may not be able to
believe your ISP when it comes to speed tests, but you can
believe this program. It displays your current speed as a
real-time graph or numeric display. Plus, it'll create logs
of your sessions, and it includes a stopwatch which tracks
your download times and reports the average transfer rates.
It's shareware; registration fee is $19.95.

Favorites Sweeper: Clean Up Your Favorites List

Internet Explorer Favorites are a great way to keep track
of your favorite Web sites, but after you use it a while,
it becomes unwieldy. Web sites change locations, and you
can't be constantly monitoring them all. This solve solves
the problem. It removes broken and duplicated links for you.
It's shareware; registration fee is $12.95.

File of the Week: AutoWhat? 2

Internet Explorer's AutoComplete does a nice job of filling
in Web forms, but it doesn't let you edit the entries stored
there. This utility lets you view the values stored for each
field name, delete incorrect ones, and pre-load the system
with additional values. To download and use it, you need to
be a subscriber to the PC Magazine utility library.
