Defending Marriage is Malicious? --Janet Parshall A central issue in this year's presidential election will be the future definition of marriage. I was at the White House when the president announced that judicial activism had risen to such a crisis level, that only an amendment to the Constitution would truly protect the traditional and historic institution of marriage. But an article has resurfaced that says John Kerry's opinion on marriage is dramatically different. Written in September of 1996 for The Advocate, a homosexual magazine, Kerry referred to the Defense of Marriage Act or DOMA as "unconstitutional and unnecessary." He also called it "mean-spirited and malicious." DOMA, signed into law by President Clinton, prohibits so-called gay marriages in one state like Massachusetts from being recognized in other states that prohibit same-sex marriage. Kerry also urged gays and lesbians to "speak out" on DOMA and other issues. Does this sound like a man who believes in protecting the definition of marriage as one man and one woman?
