* Point-and-Shoot Digital Camera Pick: Nikon Coolpix 3200 *
This compact, fully automatic 3.2-megapixel digital camera earned a
Best Buy for its point-and-click simplicity. It's well suited for
informal photographers who want great-looking snapshots.
Nikon's Coolpix 3200 weighs just 6.7 ounces. It's very easy to grip,
and its controls are simple to operate with one hand. In particular,
composing our shots with the smooth and precise 3X zoom control was a
breeze.
The 3200 carries only 14.5MB of available internal memory and has a
slot for an Secure Digital memory card. Its 1.6-inch LCD screen
provides gridlines so you can frame your shots; there are other
framing lines to help you position people, landscapes, and scenes.
The camera provides a series of nested menus and 15 scene-shooting
modes that cover most occasions. You can even use Nikon's included
image management software to stitch shots into a panorama. Its Best
Shot Selector mode lets you take up to ten shots of the same subject
by holding down the shutter release. The camera decides which image is
best and commits only the sharpest to memory.
The camera is powered by two AA alkaline batteries and lasted just
over 2 hours or 220 shots on one charge. It can take rechargeable AA
batteries or a CR-V3 disposable lithium battery.
The Nikon Coolpix 3200 typically sells for around $225. We found one
with the PC World Product Finder for $196 from Harmony Computers.

* Ink Jet Printer Pick: Hewlett-Packard Deskjet 9650 *
The Deskjet 9650 prints a variety of documents well, although not
quickly. Its wide carriage can handle paper 13 inches across and up to
4 feet long.
The input tray holds 150 sheets of paper, and the printer has a
10-sheet bypass feeder for envelopes and letterhead. It also can print
on snapshot-size and heavy stock. You can add a $129 duplexer that
lets you print double-sided documents.
You have to swap the printer's black and photo cartridges, depending
on what you're printing. HP provides all three cartridges with the
printer. The 9650 does not have a PictBridge port nor a memory card
slot.
HP's 9650 is slow, although steady: It printed text at a below-average
4.1 pages per minute and generated graphics at 0.9 ppm, a bit below
average. Text output was average; color prints on plain paper showed
sharp detail; and photos printed well on glossy paper.
The HP Deskjet 9650 was introduced priced at $399 and typically sells
for around $375. We found one with the PC World Product Finder for
$300 from PC Connection.

* PDA Pick: Hewlett-Packard IPaq H4350 *
Hewlett-Packard's IPaq H4350 personal digital assistant is
Wi-Fi-enabled and runs the Windows Mobile 2003 operating system.
The unit is barely more than a half-inch thick and a little taller
than some other IPaqs, at 5.4 inches. The added inch comes from a
built-in thumb keyboard, which is large enough to be easily usable.
Although Wi-Fi enabled, the H4350 does not have a visible wireless
antenna. It comes with 64MB of RAM plus 32MB of flash ROM (which holds
data even if your PDA loses power). The H4350 has a lithium ion
battery that is larger and more powerful than other models, so it
should operate longer on a charge.
The HP IPaq H4350 typically sells for around $450. We found one with
the PC World Product Finder for $373 from CompuBiz USA.
