After silver lining, the cloud: two dope medals in one day
A double blow for India on the field losses in tennis and hockey was nothing
compared to the double blow off it. Pratima Kumari and Sanamacha Chanu were suspended
today for two years after testing positive, two of seven lifters from five countries
found guilty of doping.

Why Ukraine, Belarus? Govt had asked the IOA
Why do the top Indian athletes train in Belarus where Sanamacha Chanu and Pratima
Kumari were before they left for Athens and Ukraine? Its a question frequently
discussed but rarely asked until now. The Sports Ministry had written a letter to the
IOA asking it why athletes were repeatedly being sent to Ukraine for training.

Urgent need for a witness protection programme: Law panel tells govt

Why did cop in charge not alert control room as 89 died in Naroda?
One of the worst massacres after the Sabarmati Express attack was in the Ahmedabad
neighbourhood of Naroda-Patiya where 89 people, including women and children, were
killed, many burnt alive. The head of the Naroda police station, K K Maisurwala, has
now said that he did not inform the police city control room of the incident.

A job opening: main Opp party in House
He slips in quietly and from an obscure corner on the last seat in the last row
observes the proceedings of the House with Buddha-like detachment, an occasional smile
playing on his lips. Nothing remarkable in a Lok Sabha full of newcomers who prefer
the back benchesexcept that this particular backbencher is Atal Behari Vajpayee.

Drought to flood, flood to drought
Hardly a week ago, Shahpuras Sub-Divisional Officer Premraj Parmar did a little
survey and prepared a report. Because of below average rains in his area, he
warned the State Government of an impending drought in the region. Today, he is
preparing a flood damage assessment report. Two days of incessant rainfallmore than
50 per cent above averagehas swamped Rajasthans Bhilwara district.
