Hello ladies, school is starting up again all over the place and I wanted to remind everyone to teach their children and others proper bus safety. Hopefully, your child(ren) will have a very safe and competent bus driver, but all that aside bus safety depends on the kids themselves and on others who might be pedestrians or driving in other vehicles also. Talk to your kids about what they can do to ensure a safe ride to and from school. Make sure: #1 Your child knows to stay seated while the bus is moving. #2 That your child knows to talk in an inside voice on the bus. #3 That you don't send food on the bus for Johnny to eat breakfast on the run or a snack for the bus ride home, if your child starts choking the bus driver might not be able to find a safe place to pull over to dislodge the stuck item. #4 Your child does not bring skates, skateboards, balls or other such items on the bus, these items can cause a wreck if lodged under the drivers pedals or if they hit the driver in the head. #5 Try to remember that if your driver is keeping too close an eye on bullies then she is not keeping a very close eye on the road. Try to have your child talk to the driver at the school about things that might be going on, that way the driver can do something about it, instead of causing a safety risk for everyone. #6 Teach your kindergartener your home address, phone number and believe it or not but their full name. (Your name and place of work too would be even better.) It is amazing how many do not realize where they live or which stop is their's, "umm the one with the white house and black shutters....." What is your name? "Billy.", "Billy what?", "Umm, I don't know" or "Just Billy."
