The Internet is a cold, impersonal place. What can
you do to make yourself, and your brand, more human.

Personalising your Email:
-------------------------
To stand out from the crowd you need to stamp your
personality into your website, and any communication
you send to your prospects. Email is often your shop
window - but if your message is hidden behind an
impersonal subject line, or doesn't include your
customers first name - you are wasting your time.
Just think this through - which emails in your own
inbox get opened first - and which are just trashed!!
The best offer in the world may never see daylight!

Personalising your Sales Copy:

In an online business you also need to provide proof
of your dealings with the "real world". This can best
be achieved through "testimonials", where satisfied
customers can be asked to provide comment and feedback
on their experience of dealing with your brand. This
can be a real order clincher for customers visiting 
your site, as you can prominently feature the best of
these as part of your sales copy, underling the benefit
claims you are making with "proof" of performance.
As an incentive, you can offer to feature links back to
the website of anyone giving you testimonials, cross
promoting their business to return the favour.
Bartering is alive and well on the Internet, but a
word of caution - NEVER invent favourable comment
in your sales copy !! If your products and services are
good, you won't have to wait too long for the real thing.

Branding Yourself:
------------------
Whilst money can come and go, you only have ONE
reputation which can easily be lost through burning
prospective customers with an inferior offering to
make a "quick kill". You simply cannot afford this
from a business perspective, but you can also write off
your credibility as an individual - which is permanent.

You may notice that I choose not to promote any
specific products on the front page of my website.
This is not because I have a poor range of things to
sell - (see http://netblueprint101.com/products.html
for part of the current range), but I simply don't 
want to limit myself, or become known for a restricted
range, or supply a product that doesn't completely satisfy.

My approach, and one that I sincerely recommend, is to
BRAND MYSELF FIRST, as an honest coach with extended
experience who can offer solutions to the problems my
readers say they have. This keeps my contact with people
relevant to THEM, protecting my credibility into the
bargain. I believe that this approach will work with almost
any Internet business, particularly where information
carries a premium.

This approach also generates high quality feedback,
which allows me to develop, or find, exactly the right
services and products for readers of Blueprint.

This is not a revolutionary concept - but it is a great
way to build up a business model, and a successful
brand on the Internet. 

One final point:
If you generate income through affiliate programmes -
NEVER send potential prospects directly to one of your
affiliate links using their supplied link text. ALWAYS
use a redirect code, a simple piece of coding that
allows you to make the link look like it is part of
your own website, further branding YOURSELF - not
your affiliate partner.
