Beyond The News -- A Daily Commentary From Salem Communications August 23, 2004
Elevated Status for McGreevy --Michael Medved The gay rights movement wants more than tolerance for homosexuality--it means to establish gay sex as a privileged and superior form of human intimacy. Consider the tawdry case of New Jersey Governor James McGreevy who recently announced his resignation. If he had conducted an extra-marital affair with a woman, placing her on the state payroll at $110,000 a year, would anyone have hailed his "courage" for confessing after he got caught? But because McGreevy's love interest was male, numerous organizations and politicians--even including his Republican predecessor, Christie Whitman--praised the Democratic governor for his honesty. Political correctness proclaims that the desire for homosexual relationships is so significant that it justifies every sort of sleazy excess, excusing irresponsible misdeeds that no one would defend between a man and a woman. The trendy attitude toward gay identity says it's better to follow your heart and your instincts, rather than following traditional moral standards--thereby undermining the basis for both family and civilization.
