Shark Tank: At least he DID take action on the problem
This contractor operates an IT system for a government agency, and it's
got some tough security requirements, according to a pilot fish.
"The really tough security requirements were due to the sensitive
nature of corporate information stored in the system," fish says. "My
job was to assess the system architecture.
"First thing I noticed was the simple fact that there was no
intrusion-detection software."
Fish points this out to the program manager, who says there's no money
in the budget for that kind of software. But an independent security
auditor does come in once a year to see if there have been any
intrusions, he tells fish.
"I pointed out that there were only two possible outcomes from this,"
says fish. "Either no intrusions would be detected, or one would be
detected, probably long after the fact.
"The result of this would be fines, lawsuits from corporations having
lost sensitive information, probable decertification by the government
and almost assured ruination of the contractor.
"The program manager's response?
"He fired me."
